AI FIRST + AxD

Agentic Experiences

AI systems create real value only when they solve real problems and fit into existing workflows. We design production-ready Agentic Experiences that are usable, reliable and integrated into real processes.

Agentic Experience Design for AI-First Systems

Artificial intelligence isn’t just changing technology. It’s changing how digital systems work. Interfaces are becoming more conversational, processes more automated, and software increasingly capable of taking action.

Many companies respond by introducing isolated AI tools or experimenting with individual agents. But real impact comes from projects that are designed AI-first, and when the collaboration between humans and AI is intentionally designed.

What does AI-First mean?

AI-First is a strategic approach to product and service development where Artificial intelligence is not added later as a feature, but instead it is considered a core part of the system from the very beginning.

Instead of simply digitizing existing processes, the first question becomes: Which tasks could AI support, automate, or perform independently?
Based on this perspective, products, services and workflows are designed in new ways, allowing AI to deliver real value while ensuring transparency, control and a strong user experience.

What is Agentic Experience Design?

When people hand over tasks to intelligent, sometimes autonomous, systems, the roles of both humans and technology within a process begin to change.

Agentic Experience Design (AXD) combines approaches from UX design, conversation design and service design to shape how humans, AI agents and the systems they rely on work together, creating interactions that remain understandable, controllable and trustworthy.

Why many AI experiments fail

It has never been easier to experiment with AI. Today’s tools make it simple to build quick prototypes, chatbots or agents. Yet many of these projects remain experiments, because the gap between an impressive prototype and a reliable, working system is often significant.

Common challenges include unclear user intent, poorly designed interactions, missing process logic, limited integration with existing systems, and security or governance requirements that are difficult to meet.

Experiments are incredibly valuable, but they cannot replace the strategic and conceptual work required to turn AI initiatives into systems that actually operate in the real world.

Our approach: AI First + AXD

We design digital systems with AI in mind from the very beginning. Instead of starting with tools or technologies, we start by asking which problems AI can actually solve.

AI First provides the strategic direction: products and processes are designed around the capabilities of AI from the outset. Agentic Experience Design translates this strategy into concrete user experiences.
The result is AI-supported systems that are not only powerful, but also understandable, controllable and trustworthy.

The questions we use to design AI-First systems

What problem is the organization actually trying to solve?

Technology is never the starting point, the problem is. Only if it is clear what a company truly wants to achieve, we can determine whether and how AI should be used.

Which tasks can a system support or automate?

Not every task should be automated or delegated to agents. We identify process steps in which AI can create real value, and often rethink entire workflows along the way.

What role can AI play within the system?

AI can analyze information, generate recommendations or perform tasks autonomously.
Responsibility for critical decisions and outcomes, however, always remains with people.

How do humans and the system interact?

In AI-based systems, interfaces become more conversational and collaborative. Therefore, interaction models need to be designed carefully and adapted to each specific use case.

What data is available?

AI systems depend on suitable data. Effective use of AI requires structured information, accessible knowledge sources and reliable APIs.

How does AI fit into the existing system landscape?

AI rarely operates in isolation. A key question is how it integrates with existing systems and connects to existing data sources.

What requirements apply to security and governance?

AI systems often interact with sensitive data. Security requirements, data protection and clear responsibilities are therefore essential.

How will AI change the organization and its workflows?

Introducing AI affects tasks, roles and working methods. Therefore, it is vital to understand early how teams will work with AI systems and which new roles may emerge.

How ready is the organization for AI?

Successful AI initiatives require certain foundations, including accessible data, technical interfaces and clear organizational structures.

Designing AI-First systems: our process

AI-driven systems are rarely created in a linear way. That is why we work iteratively between analysis, system design and technical implementation, allowing insights from each phase to continuously shape the next.

Analysis

We begin by developing a clear understanding of the current situation. This includes analyzing user goals, decision logic, existing data and operational processes in order to identify meaningful opportunities for AI

System & Experience Design

Based on these insights, we define system requirements and design appropriate interaction models as well as realistic integration approaches.

Technology & Implementation

Together with internal IT teams and development partners, we select suitable technologies, support the implementation and help integrate AI-powered systems into existing platforms and processes.
